The Walnut Creek Mural Program
This summer, we proudly wrapped up the Walnut Creek Mural Project, bringing four new large-scale murals to Downtown Walnut Creek. Congratulations to all of the artists who contributed their creativity, vision, and flavor to the project and leaving their vibrant mark in Walnut Creek.
The completed works include Confluence by Tsui Xiao Rui and Elliot Trent Thompson on the north-facing parking lot wall at 1419 N. Broadway;
Creek Dwellers by Joey Rose and Alexandra Underwood, spanning two walls in the breezeway at 1419 N. Broadway;
Junglelaya by Steven Anderson, located on the south-facing parking lot wall at 1419 N. Broadway;
and A Step Off the Path by Zoe Adiah Boston at 1372 N. Main Street.
We tried our best to capture the magic, but seeing it in person is a whole different experience. Take a stroll through the area and experience the murals for yourself!

More Mosaics
Back in our April newsletter, we gave you a first look at our newest temp production space: the Chinatown Palace. With two floors, 11,000 square feet, stained-glass windows, and yes—even a red floor—it’s the kind of place that makes you want to create. Now we're working on one of our largest projects to date: another mosaic tile mural. This one is literally four times bigger than the last.
Creating a mural at this scale is truly an all-hands-on-deck effort. It requires precision, technique, patience, and, honestly, real mosaic experience.
A huge thank you to Pat O'Neill, Sarah Nassar, Louka Lannois, and our mosaic mentors Michael Chavez Jr and Rachel Rodi for lending their expertise, guidance, and many hours of hands-on work to this massive undertaking. Their craftsmanship, dedication, and hard work have been instrumental every step of the way.
With thousands of pieces and countless hours already invested, we're excited to share more as the project continues to take shape.
ABG Projects x Tsui Xiao Rui @ SFCCC
One project that embodies the spirit of community was our collaboration with the Shoong Family Chinese Cultural Center, whose mission is to nurture Bay Area youth and preserve Chinese heritage through language education, cultural programming, and community engagement.
Before the mural took its final form, the walls were first touched by the hands of Shoong Center students, who contributed their own marks to the piece. Along the way, community elders stopped by to share stories, offer guidance, and put us on game with traditional Chinese calligraphy. Watching knowledge, culture, and creativity pass from one generation to the next was an experience we'll never forget.
The finished artwork was brought to life by ABG's very own Tsui Xiao Rui with the support of artist/ABG's VP of Art Advisory Johara (Joey) Owens. His public art practice reflects his Chinese heritage, while his studio work blends the expressive qualities of traditional Chinese calligraphy and brushwork with contemporary abstract painting. The result is a piece that honors tradition while embracing the present—a fitting reflection of the community that helped shape it.
